Signs of Spring

Baby Crocuses, Maybe?

We’re still waiting for buds and leaves to start sprouting on the trees here in Minneapolis, but we do have little shoots and flowers starting to break their way through the soil. And just in time for Easter! The lakes are melting and the moss is on the trees, and bicycles are out in full force around the city. The signs of Spring are here!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Like a Lion

Cloud Cover

The old weather proverb about March says that it is “In like a lion, out like a lamb.” In many places this is true, but in Minnesota, not so much. The lion is still roaring, and we’re expected to end the month with wind, rain and snow.

Green Minnesota

March Moss

One of my favorite things about Spring in Minnesota is how green everything becomes. After only one hard rain this Spring, the trees are covered in a soft layer of moss and have taken on a velvety texture. The grass is starting to turn green too, and as we move into April the moss and grass will thicken, creating the feeling of a soft green forest with a city inside it. Usually by May the moss is gone, and Minneapolis looks like any other Midwestern city, but for at least a few weeks it feels a little bit like the Pacific Northwest.

In Anticipation of the Thaw

Feeling Green

There’s no place to find color like an art store. Each color is named, categorized, and labeled in each medium, and displayed in little cases like candy at the corner store. This weekend I found my color in the colored pencils – the greens I long to see out my window, the colors of Spring.

We are warming up here, holding today at 25 but hopefully hitting the 30s tomorrow. Maybe it’s not too far off after all.

A Quick Update

It’s been a while since I’ve posted – I haven’t been doing much wandering!  Spring is progressing and it’s been really cloudy and rainy here (although today it’s snowing!) so I haven’t gotten out to get many pictures.  Hopefully that will change soon with May around the corner.  I’m looking forward to getting out there, taking some pics and wandering a bit!
